While Thanksgiving doesn't hold any significance for the ordinary Ecuadorian, at the Colegio Americano in Guayaquil, it is recognized in a way. During the last two days in secondary school at Colegio, giving thanks has been overshaddowed by a commercial sort of celebration. Not sure if this is related to today's holiday, but yesterday the student government put on a full on fashion show complete with a runway, lights, a smoke machine, and loud sexy hip-hop music, for the 500+ students and staff of secondary school. Appearently, one of their campagin promisses was to put on a show displaying the latest from a local designer, so the senior class delivered on their promise! Today began with a show in the stadium dubed as a display of "values," but turned out to be a two hour live action Ecuadorian slap-stick comedy promotion for some local businesses. The actors are supposedly well known Ecuadorian TV stars!! Then, we played some American football - 6 on 6 flag football - against a group of Americans from the US consulate and DEA here in Guayaquil. We had our students in the stands for support, and even after being down 6-24, we won, 33-32, in the final minutes! Finally, the school provided a turkey lunch at 130 for the entire staff, thanks Colegio!!
And now, I'm preparing for a Gringo Feast to be held here in my casa, in t-minus 10 minutes, so turkey day has not gone completely unoticed down here!!
Love to all my friends and family, I'm missing and sending blessings to everyone on this day and everyday!
