Today the first case of swine flu in Ecuador was confirmed in one of Colegio Americano's second course students. In secondary, after the student election morning campaigns and debates, the school went on lock down. We were in a holding pattern, waiting for further instruction. We waited for the ministry of health to send a representative to our school to announce the infection to all of secondary at the same time. What chaos ensued! Students were screaming with joy at the announcement of 8 days of no school, parents were flooding the campus trying to find their students, teachers were running around trying to comfort students and find out for themselves what the heck was happening. Then we heard that the case was confirmed. Eventually, the students left early and the teachers as well...And now the real question remains, what new corners of Ecuador am I going to explore next week>??
